Gary Hahs of Cape Girardeau has been promoted to business manager at Auffenberg Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge Sales and Service, 611 S. Kingshighway.

Hahs joined the firm 10 months ago as a sales associate.

He is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in general studies.

John A. Luke Jr. this year will become president and chief executive officer of Westvaco Corp., a manufacturer of paper, packaging and chemicals.

John A. Luke, current president, has announced his retirement as an officer of the company effective Nov. 1. Luke has been with the firm 43 years. He was recently honored as "Papermaker of the Year" for 1991 by PaperAge Magazine.

John Luke Jr., executive vice president, has overall responsibility for the company's international activities, and is directly involved in managing the affairs of the other major business units of the company.

He served as treasurer of the company between 1983 and 1987. He has been executive vice president since October 1990. He joined Westvaco in 1949 at the Charleston, S. C., mill, and became mill manager in 1953.

The younger Luke is a graduate of Lawrence University. He holds a master's degree in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was an officer in the Air Force from 1971 through 1974, serving in southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict.

Westvaco has sales offices and manufacturing sites worldwide, including a fine-papers manufacturing facility at Wickliffe, Ky.
