Dan D. McLean, formerly of Cape Girardeau, has been named chief operating officer of Safeco Property and Casualty Insurance Companies of Seattle, Wash.
McLean will become president of Safeco at the end of the year, when its president, James W. Cannon, retires.
McLean is the son of Geraldine McLean and the late Robert McLean, longtime residents of Cape Girardeau.
He is a graduate of Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University. He joined Safeco in St. Louis immediately following graduation from the university.
He moved to Seattle with the firm in 1980, was promoted to senior vice president in 1984, and was named head of the personal lines department in 1989.
McLean is married to the former Denise Hahn of Scott City.

T. LOUIS Susan Wilson Pisani has been promoted to the position of vice president of corporate marketing services with ITT Commercial Finance Corp. in St. Louis.
In her position, Pisani will be responsible for the company's advertising, public relations activities, employee communications, sales promotions and analyses and production of the firm's strategic and operating plans.
Pisani joined ITT in 1989 as manager of public relations. She was promoted to manager of marketing communications in 1990, and was given additional responsibility in 1991 as manager of corporate communications.
Before joining ITT, Pisani ran her own public relations and advertising company, Wilson and Associates.
She attended Southeast Missouri State University and is working toward a juris doctor degree at St. Louis University School of Law.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Marshall Herron, who previously owned a Kirby Co. distributorship in Cape Girardeau, has been promoted to the position of vice president of sales for the worldwide Kirby organization.
The Kirby Co. manufactures a home-care system marketed by in-home demonstrations through independent distributors in 41 countries.
Herron, a Lincoln University graduate, started with Kirby as an independent dealer in 1976. He owned a distributorship in Cape Girardeau until 1985, when he joined the Kirby world headquarters staff.

ADVANCE Harold M. Miles, who has served as vice president and director of the Bank of Advance since 1985, will take over duties as president of the bank April 1.
He succeeds David L. Cummins, who is retiring.
Miles, a graduate of Advance High School and Southeast Missouri State University, is also a graduate of the School of Banking in Madison, Wis.
Cummins started with the Bank of Advance in 1968. During his stay, Cummins directed the bank's growth of assets from $5.7 million to $68.8 million.
Neil Miles, a bank vice president, will assume Harold L. Miles' position on the board. Neil Miles is also a graduate of Advance High School and Southeast Missouri State University.
