Persons interested in doing something constructive to improve state forests are getting their chance, thanks to a Southeast Missouri State University biologist.
Alan Journet of the school's biology department will lead a group to collect acorns at Meramec State Park on Oct. 5. The acorns will be used as part of an ecological restoration project being conducted with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The project is aimed at restoring a bottomland hardwood (oak/hickory) forest on the bank of the Meramec River.
Transportation to and from the park will be provided. The caravan will leave about 7:30 a.m. and return by 7 p.m. the same day.
Anyone interested in helping should contact Journet at 651-2366 or 334-6671.
