United We Read, centered on the book "Tallgrass" by Sandra Dallas, will kick off with a reception with the author at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Central High School's library. Dallas will discuss her book for students and the public at 8:30, 9:15 and 10 a.m. Thursday in the library.

"Tallgrass" tells the story of a town divided when a Japanese internment camp opens in Colorado during World War II.

David Fiedler, author of "The Enemy Among Us: POWs in Missouri During World War II" will discuss his book at 12:45, 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the library. All events are free and open to the public.

Several community discussions about the book will also be held:

  • 2:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in Central High School's library, led by principal Dr. Mike Cowan.
  • 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Barnes and Noble, led by Central High School librarian Julia Howes Jorgensen.
  • 1:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the parlor of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, led by Jorgensen.
  • 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, led by library staff.
