Toybox

Brianna, 10, wants a new Barbie doll for Christmas this year. She also likes Strawberry Shortcake and the Care Bears. Her brother, Cameron, 7, wants a Spider-man toy, an Uno game and a remote-controlled car. Kaleb, 6, wants Power Ranger toys and flash cards.

Their requests for Santa seem simple, but without Toybox these children wouldn't have any Christmas presents. Toybox is a joint program of the Southeast Missourian and Cape Girardeau Jaycees that helps needy families with Christmas gifts.

Donations are necessary to fill the requests from 500 families in need before Thursday.

Christmas for the Elderly

Miss U has no family in Southeast Missouri but does have two dogs to keep her company. She suffers from arthritis, high blood pressure and has a history of strokes.

She could use a little extra this holiday seasons since her income is minimal. She would like a new sweat suit in size large; gowns in extra large, bath towels and dish towels for her kitchen. She'd also like some dog snacks for her pets. Gift certificates to the pharmacy and discount stores also would be helpful.

Mrs. V lives with a daughter and grandson. She has some health problems that require extra attention. She has a few simple requests for the holiday. She would like a sweat shirt and pants in size medium, white socks for size 9 to 11, underwear in size 8 and a bra in size 36 C. House shoes in size 7 also would be helpful.

Toys and gifts can be donated at the Southeast Missourian offices. Tax-deductible monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0004.
