Alfred C. Robertson, a professor in the earth science department at Southeast Missouri State University, was elected vice president of the Missouri Academy of Science at its 1991 annual meeting at Westminster College in Fulton this year.
As vice president, Robertson will assume the presidency of the MAS for the 1992-93 year. The academy's 1994 annual meeting will be held in Cape Girardeau.
Robertson has been active in the MAS, serving as chairman of the geography section of the senior division for two years. He also chaired the local arrangements committee for the academy's annual meeting held in Cape Girardeau in 1984.
Robertson was secretary of the academy from 1983-86, and served as its treasurer from 1986-1989. He was elected fellow of the academy in 1990.
Robertson received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State University and his doctorate from Oklahoma State University. His research interest is climatology.
Robertson has given numerous presentations and published a monograph entitled "An Illustrated Climatological Record for Cape Girardeau, Mo. - 1905-1986."
In 1989, Robertson received the service award from the College of Technology and Science at Southeast Missouri State University for his work with the local news media on stories relating to meteorological and climatological data in the area. Each month Robertson provides climatological data to the Southeast Missourian for articles on local weather statistics.
Robertson is past chairman of the university's Faculty Senate, of which he is a member.
