CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Dr. Gerald Stott, associate professor of sociology at Southeast Missouri State University, has been awarded a $3,750 grant to attend the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) Summer Session for College Teachers.
The seminar, funded by NEH, will be held from June 17 to Aug. 15 at Columbia University in New York. Dr. George Saliba, professor of Arabic and Islamic studies and chairman of Middle East languages and cultures at Columbia University, will teach the seminar course titled "Islam and the Scientific Tradition."
Stott was one of 12 selected to participate in the seminar from a field of 30.
"It's a big opportunity," he said, adding the seminar is geared to support college teachers at non-graduate institutions.
"It is an achievement," Saliba said. "There are only 50 seminars like this that the NEH supports across the country."
