Problems with computer and telephone equipment have delayed the start-up of a Youth Activities Line sponsored by the Community Caring Council Children's Issues Committee.
Elizabeth Schmucker, chairwoman of the committee, said Long Distance Discount, Inc., the service provider, is installing new equipment for the line, which was scheduled to become operational Monday.
Organizers now expect the line to be up and running by mid-April.
"We have been pleased with the level of cooperation and assistance the LDD personnel have provided. We understand that everything that can be done to resolve these problems is happening," Schmucker said.
All organizations and agencies that have submitted information for the activities line are being advised of the delay and how it may affect their activities.
Information on the following issues can be submitted by calling 651-2099: Sports (ages 12 and under, or ages 13 and up), special events, contests and competitions, church activities, scouting, camps and workshops, arts, crafts and culture, volunteer opportunities and "other stuff."
Sponsors are being sought for the activity line. For a $125 sponsorship fee, sponsors will have their name announced on the line to all callers for 90 days. All funds received are used to operate the activities line. Current sponsors include Southeast Missouri Hospital, Southeast Missouri State University, Target and Mercantile Bank. For more information, call Schmucker at 334-0990.
