Marine Corps Pvt. Jeffrey Daniels, son of Laura Teardo of Palm City, Fla., and Clark Daniels of Cape Girardeau, recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif. Daniels is a 2001 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.
Adult literacy classes closed through Jan. 1
The Adult Education Literacy classes in Jackson will be closed through Jan. 1. Classes will resume from 6-8:30 p.m. Jan 2, and Wednesday evenings at the R.O. Hawkins Junior High on Westlane.
Adults planning to take GED, college entrance, military or nursing tests or wish to improve or brush up on their skills are encouraged to take advantage of the free classes. Materials and lessons are free. For more information, call 334-3669.
Scott City Kiwanis sponsoring bike program
The Scott City Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a bicycle program to benefit four unfortunate children for Christmas. The club will present a bicycle to the parents of each child so that each parent can give the bike to their child on Christmas morning.
JHS Class of 1972 schedules reunion

St. Francis to host triathlon in February
St. Francis Medical Center's Fitness and Wellness Department is hosting the 2002 Indoor Triathlon from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 in the Universal Health and Fitness Center. The public is invited to participate in the triathlon in one of two categories within their age group. The categories are coed teams of three and individual female and male teams. Anyone ages 19 to 60-plus are welcome.
Events include 10-minute stair-stepping, 15-minute cycling and 15-minute treadmill running.
The cost of the event is $11 before Feb. 11 or $20 for registration on the day of the event. Late registration will be held, space permitting, from 9-9:30 a.m. on the event day.
