CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A preliminary hearing has been set for March 16 for a Bertrand, Mo., man, accused of trafficking large amounts of heroin into Southeast Missouri.
Daniel Shemar Murray, 28, will go before Judge T. Lynn Brown, who will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to bind Murray over for trial.
Murray is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. One count is through Scott County and the other is from Mississippi County.
The Sikeston Department of Public Safety, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, SEMO Drug Task Force and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department conducted an investigation that led to Murray's arrest in January. Police said they discovered large amounts of heroin being transported from the St. Louis and Chicago areas to an unnamed man living near Bertrand.
Sikeston police served a search warrant at the man's Mississippi County home on Jan. 19 and located a large amount of heroin and three handguns. Murray is a prior felon and prohibited from possessing these handguns.
