Preliminary hearing delayed in Benton woman's molestation, sodomy case

BENTON, Mo. -- A 22-year-old woman facing felony charges for statutory sodomy and child molestation had her preliminary hearing rescheduled Tuesday at a hearing in the Scott County judicial building.

Kyla R. Miller of Benton is charged with three counts of statutory sodomy and four counts of child molestation for allegedly inappropriately touching a boy younger than 12 and a 10-year-old girl earlier this year.

Associate Circuit Court Judge Scott Horman reset Miller's preliminary hearing for 1 p.m. June 23. Miller appeared at the hearing with her counsel, Patrick Davis.

According to court documents, the boy said Miller molested him more than 50 times. And in an interview with the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence, the boy claimed Miller told him not to tell anyone about the touching.

The girl told NASV Miller inappropriately touched her mostly when she walked by and that whenever it would happen she would slap Miller's hand away.

Miller is a prior offender in Scott County. In 2009, she was convicted of driving without a license and in Cape Girardeau County, was convicted of making a false report in 2007.
