POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Half of the city of Poplar Bluff was without power for about 20 minutes early Wednesday afternoon, according to Bill Bach, general manager of Municipal Utilities.
"A fuse at the power plant substation went out and caused a breaker to trip at our backup protection at the Morrison Road substation," Bach said.
The high temperature was 98 Wednesday with a heat index of 111 due to the high humidity.
Electricity usage in the city totaled 78 megawatts -- the highest this summer, according to Bach. The peak power usage in Poplar Bluff is 84 megawatts.
