Awards in the sixth annual Southeast Missouri Hospital Regional Heart Center Poster Contest were presented at the recent American Heart Association's HeartBeat '96 held at West Park Mall. Some 275 children participated in this year's contest.
First-place winners of the heart-healthy slogan contest were Sarah Lumley of Benton and Paige Reynolds of Cape Girardeau.
In the poster contest, winners by age category were 4- and 5-year-olds, Amanda Pleimann of Jackson, first place; Josh Robert of Cape Girardeau, second place; Jarron Brennecke of Cape Girardeau, third place; and Meagen Krantz of Cape Girardeau, honorable mention.
For 6- to 8-years-olds: Eric Cobb of Chaffee, first place; Andrew Telle of Uniontown, second place; Lauren Essner of Cape Girardeau, third place; Sarah Nenniger of Gordonville, and Erica Glastetter of Chaffee and Cara McElmurry of Cape Girardeau, honorable mention.
For 9- to 11-year-olds: Erica Dirnberger of Oran, first place; Kate Pfefferkorn of Chaffee, second place; Cara Scherer of Benton, third place; Emily Seiler of Benton, third place; James Smith of Wolf Lake, Ill., and Clint Stroder of Chaffee, honorable mention.
For 12- to 14-year-olds: Champ Friend of Cape Girardeau, first place; Holly Dirnberger of Oran, second place; Mary Ann Cobb of Chaffee, third place; Maria Troxell of Marble Hill and Curtis Cox of Cape Girardeau, honorable mention.
