POTATO SALAD RECALL WON'T AFFECT CAPE STORE

A recall of a limited selection of potato salad products carried in Schnucks markets in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana won't affect Cape Girardeau shoppers.

Company representative Carrie Trent said Schnucks stores in all three states and Logli stores in Rockford, Ill., were notified Wednesday to pull mayonnaise, mustard and red potato salads from Mrs. Crockett's Kitchens Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas, as a cautionary measure.

Cape Girardeau store manager Dennis Marchi said none of the potato salad varieties were sold in the local store.

Trent said the products were voluntarily recalled by Schnucks after learning of a possible health hazard. Affected products may contain minute traces of Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious or sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infection also may cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Customers are asked to destroy products or return them for a full refund.

Affected products include potato salads sold by the pound in some Schnucks deli departments and the 3-pound Mrs. Crockett's Kitchens mayonnaise potato salad. Products have expiration dates between Oct. 3 and Oct. 25.
