A rally protesting a possible slowdown of mail delivery because of cuts planned by the U.S. Postal Service is set for Friday in Cape Girardeau.
The rally is part of a national day of action organized by postal unions, according to a news release from the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association. The date coincides with the last meeting this year of the U.S. Postal Service's board of governors.
More than 80 mail processing and distribution centers are scheduled to close starting in January, and the unions fear additional changes in service will delay mail delivery, the release stated.
The Cape Girardeau rally will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday outside the post office at 320 N. Frederick St.
Rallies are also planned for Friday in Kansas City, Missouri, and St. Louis.
