Poshard names trustee as interim chancellor
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A member of Southern Illinois University's board of trustees is resigning his post to accept an appointment as the interim chancellor at SIU's Carbondale campus. University president Glenn Poshard said he's tapped retired professor and longtime Carbondale community leader Samuel Goldman to take over for interim provost Don Rice. Rice has been handling daily administrative duties in the office since Poshard placed chancellor Fernando Trevino on paid administrative leave last month, just nine months after Trevino took the helm in Carbondale. Poshard contends Trevino hasn't carried out basic initiatives required of his job. Poshard said he's reassigned Trevino to a tenured faculty position, pending binding arbitration dispute resolution proceedings between Trevino and the school.
