Dr. Nolan Porterfield, professor emeritus of English at Southeast Missouri State University, will present the third annual H.O. Grauel Memorial Lecture March 5.
Porterfield will present "Writing Lives" in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium at 7 p.m. A reception will follow.
The Dr. H.O. Grauel Memorial Lecture was established in the spring of 1996 in tribute to the late Southeast scholar.
Grauel taught at Southeast from 1928 to 1971. He chaired the English department for many years and headed the divisions of English, foreign language, philosophy and speech. He died on Nov. 15, 1995, at the age of 94. Southeast's language arts building is named for him.
Porterfield, a native of Texas, received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees at West Texas University. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Iowa.
He has written five books and published articles and short fiction in national magazines, including Harper's and North American Review.
