The Missouri Pops Orchestra returns to Cape Girardeau to perform Saturday.
The concert will be held at 8 p.m. in Academic Auditorium. Boatmen's Bank and Southeast Missouri Council on the Arts are sponsoring the performance, which includes a montage of popular American music and European classics.
The Pops Orchestra will perform three polkas from composer Johann Strauss, Jr. and two pieces by American composer Leroy Anderson. The program also includes selections from the musical "My Fair Lady" and the finale is "That's Entertainment!"
Produced by the Missouri Symphony Society, the Missouri Pops Orchestra is composed of 43 musicians chosen from nationwide auditions.
These professional musucians play in other symphony orchestras during the winter or teach at the university level. They gather in Columbia for a 7-week summer festival season which includes 10 concerts.
Tickets for the concert are $5 in advance and $6 at the door for adults and $2.50 in advance and $3 at the door for children.
Arts Council members and Boatmen's Superset members receive a 20 percent discount. Tickets are available at Boatmen's Bank locations in Cape Girardeau and Jackson and the Arts Council office.
Financial assistance is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
