POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A 31-year-old Poplar Bluff woman died Monday at a St. Louis hospital from injuries she suffered in a two-vehicle crash in Dunklin County.

According to family members, Rebecca S. Berry died Monday afternoon at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Authorities reported she had been taken there for surgery after a crash at 5 a.m. Sunday on Route MM, four miles west of Malden, Mo.

Berry, who was a Daily American Republic contracted newspaper carrier, was finishing her route in her 2004 Chevrolet Tracker when it allegedly was struck head-on by Douglas R. Stinson's southbound 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee after his SUV crossed the center of the road.

Berry, her 38-year-old husband, Jason T. Berry, and 10-year-old daughter, Natalie L. Pruitt, had serious injuries.

Rebecca Berry initially was flown to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. Jason Berry was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where he was reportedly treated and released. Natalie was flown to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., for treatment. She has been released.

Stinson, 43, of Malden, also suffered serious injuries and was flown to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis for treatment. He was arrested at 6 a.m. on three counts of assault, failure to drive on the right half of the road, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to medical personnel.
