POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- An apparent domestic dispute Wednesday morning sent a Poplar Bluff man to the hospital with stab wounds and his girlfriend to jail.
Officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded at about 6:15 a.m. to Patricia Green's residence in the 600 block of North D Street.
Green, 28, is accused of stabbing her 56-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Mattox, according to Lt. Ralph Jefferson.
Mattox, he said, had "a few head wounds [which] did not appear major," said Jefferson, who described the wounds as being "scalp cuts."
Mattox, who was conscious and talking, was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment, Jefferson said.
"By the time the initial officers arrived, she was gone; we had someone get in touch with her by phone," Jefferson said. "She came back and was taken into custody" on suspicion of first-degree domestic assault.
Mattox, Jefferson said, told officers Green "stabbed him with three different knives. Officers said there were knives laying everywhere" in the residence.
Chief Danny Whiteley said Mattox also told officers he and Green had been "taking prescription Hydrocodone while drinking alcohol, which was a contributing factor.
"We all know prescription pain pill abuse in this area is way out of hand."
