ST. LOUIS -- A poll indicates that Republicans show more support for a Missouri ballot issue on health insurance than Democrats.

The poll conducted for The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV asked 300 likely Democratic primary voters and 300 likely Republican primary voters if they intended to support Proposition C.

The measure will be on the ballot in the August primary and asks if Missourians should be able to opt out of the health insurance mandate in the new federal health care law.

Republicans overwhelmingly said yes to the proposition, 67 percent to 16 percent, with 17 percent undecided. Democrats said no, 48 percent to 27 percent, with 25 percent undecided.

The poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research from July 19 to 21 and has a margin of error of 6 percentage points.
