A Cape Girardeau police officer was listed in serious condition at an area hospital after being involved in an accident Saturday morning while on duty.
Officer Dan Niswonger was operating one of the department's motorcycles, assisting with a running event near the Show Me Center, when the accident occurred.
Police said Niswonger was southbound on North Sprigg Street when his motorcycle collided with a southbound van driven by William Joyce of Cape Girardeau. The two collided near the intersection of North Sprigg and Emerald streets.
Joyce and a passenger in the van were not injured.
The officer was transported by ambulance to the St. Francis Medical Center.
