ENERGY, Ill. -- Authorities say a woman is hospitalized after being hit by a pickup truck and dragged 50 feet in the Southern Illinois town of Energy.

Herrin police said 42-year-old driver Tracy Hardcastle fled on foot after Monday evening's accident outside Casey's General Store and was found in a home. She faces charges for driving with a revoked license, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an injury accident and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Authorities said the victim, 43-year-old Sherri Branch of Herrin, was hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition in St. Louis.

Police say the accident happened while Branch was taking a cigarette break outside the convenience store, where she worked.

Hardcastle was jailed Tuesday in Williamson County and couldn't be reached.
