The Cape Girardeau and Jackson police departments and the Community Traffic Safety Program will sponsor a Safety Belt Check and Awareness Fair Saturday.
The event will be from 1-4 p.m. at Boatmen's Bank on Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau and Boatmen's Bank on Main Street in Jackson.
The first 50 parents who come through the checkpoint with their preschool children properly secured in a safety seat will receive a free Buckle Up Buddy stuffed animal, which is designed to cover the child's safety belt.
Crash test dummies Vince and Larry will be on hand to visit with participants, and various rescue vehicles will be on display. Free gifts and prizes will be given away.
Organizers said the event's purpose is to create seat belt awareness and increase usage rates.
For further information, contact Sgt. Carl Kinnison at 335-6621 or Lt. Bob Bonney at 243-3151.
