Two women who allegedly broke into a house on North Henderson Avenue and attempted to steal a woman's television while she was at home are charged with first-degree burglary. According to Cpl. Ike Hammonds of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, Portia N. Lane, 35, of 540 S. Frederick St., and Edna J. Gates, 39, of 1514 Scott St., forced their way into the house Thursday afternoon, fought with the resident and took a television. Hammonds said the resident fought back and Lane and Gates left the television in the front yard and left on foot. They were later arrested. Both were in custody Friday afternoon at the Cape Girardeau County Jail. Bond has been set for each at $25,000 surety.
