NOTE: This story has been edited to reflect that the man was pulled over by a sheriff's deputy, not a state trooper.
The name of the suspect who escaped from the custody of a Cape Girardeau County sheriff's deputy Wednesday evening has been released. Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Nathan Wheeles said the male suspect's name is Roberto Carlos Albarado-Martinez. He also goes by the alias Roberto Carlos Aguilar.
The deputy stopped the suspect for an equipment violation Wednesday at mile marker 116 on Interstate 55 southbound. Wheeles said Albarado-Martinez then presented fraudulent documents to the deputy, who contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. The suspect then fled on foot.
Wheeles said the subject is believed to be in Cape Girardeau. Albarado-Martinez faces charges from the highway patrol and ICE officials.
