ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Police in St. Charles say a Lindenwood University student who reported being sexually attacked on campus has admitted fabricating the story.

The 21-year-old Des Peres woman now is charged with a misdemeanor count of making a false report.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the university sent an alert to more than 12,000 students after the woman went to police March 7 with her report. The woman said she had been ambushed several nights earlier by a man hiding in a library restroom stall.

She said the man threatened her and tried to remove her leggings, but fled after she kicked him.

Police said the woman admitted last week she made the story up, but did not explain why she did so.
