SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday night at the American Legion Hall.

About 8:40 p.m., nearly 100 people were participating in a bingo game at the hall when three masked individuals, said to be armed with handguns, entered and demanded the bingo money, according to a department news release. The organizers handed over an undisclosed amount of money before the three ran out of the building, police said.

Sikeston police are being assisted by the SEMO Major Case Squad because of the large number of witnesses and the nature of the offense. Police canvassed the area and conducted several interviews in an attempt to gather more leads.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the department at 573-471-4711 or call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 573-471-1500. Tips may be emailed to publicsafety@sikeston.org.

Anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspects may be eligible for a cash reward.
