Police seek suspect in armed robbery

Police are looking for the suspect in a residential armed robbery that was reported Thursday.

Officers were responding to an unrelated call for service about 5 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Good Hope Street when they heard a gunshot at a house across the street, said Darin Hickey, public information officer for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The suspect was known to the victim, Hickey said.

"He had been in the residence for a little bit of time before the robbery occurred," he said.

Hickey said the victim, who was not hurt, told the officers the suspect displayed a firearm, fired a shot into the couch and took an undisclosed amount of money before leaving out the back door.

"They were sitting there having a discussion when ... a verbal altercation occurred and the suspect pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the couch," he said.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect after he left, Hickey said.

The suspect was still at large Friday afternoon, Hickey said.
