A suspect fled into a wooded area between Fountain and Spanish streets in north-central Cape Girardeau on Thursday after abandoning his car while it was moving.

The white Cadillac came to rest against a Chrysler Sebring and a Dumpster behind the Elms Apartments, 510 N. Frederick St. A search of the area between Fountain Street and the Mississippi River failed to turn up the suspect.

Officers at the scene declined to release details of why officers sought to stop the car. The station commander for the evening shift declined to make any statements about the nature of the stop or any alleged offenses committed by the man who fled.

The search included the K9 unit of the police department. The officer in the K9 unit was attempting to make the traffic stop when the man fled.

The wreck caused minor damage to the Chrysler owned by Jordan Renaud of Cape Girardeau.
