Though police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night at 2857 Themis St., it appears that a fugitive recovery agent for the Missouri Department of Corrections fired the weapon, Sgt. Barry Hovis of the Cape Girardeau police department said Friday.
Zachary C. Snyder, 23, was about to be arrested by the agent on a warrant for violating the terms of his parole.
Snyder had been on supervised probation since his release from the Department of Corrections after serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance and stealing a motor vehicle in 2003, said James Berry, supervisor of District 37 Probation and Parole Services.
A warrant was issued for his arrest for violating the conditions of that probation, said Berry, meaning he did not comply with routine parole officer appointments or was living somewhere he wasn't permitted to be living.
