Police are searching for a man and woman suspected of attempting to rob a motorist who tried to offer help.
About 1:25 p.m. Monday, a report came in that a man pulled off to the side of County Road 618 near 5-H Ranch after seeing a young woman, possibly in her 20s, on the side of the road wearing a red tank top and bluejeans that looked tattered, said Capt. David James of the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department. The motorist thought the woman might have been hit by a car, James said.
However, a man wearing a white T-shirt, bluejeans and a ski mask appeared out of the wooded area near the road with a knife and attempted to rob the motorist, James said.
Officers believe the two are working together because the victim said the woman did not call for help when the masked man appeared, James said.
The victim was able to escape unharmed.
