EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Officers crawled under a grain bin Monday to rescue a trapped dog.
At 7:15 a.m., East Prairie animal control officer Jerry Medina responded to the Bell Grainery just west of a Main Street parking lot after a report of a possible trapped canine.
Medina found the dog under the bin where the grain is stored, according to a report from the East Prairie Police Department. The officer determined the animal was thin and possibly suffered an injury on its back right leg.
Assisted by several police officers and city workers, Medina descended into the grain bin. City employee Lewis Kirby followed. Working together, the men were able to retrieve the dog, with Kirby carrying it up the ladder and out of the bin to safety.
The canine did not suffered only a few superficial lacerations, according to the report. It was taken to recover at the city pound.
