The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in connection with Tuesday's fatal shooting on Ranney Avenue.
At 9:43 p.m. Tuesday, the Cape Girardeau Police Department received a report of the shooting at 911 Ranney. When officers arrived, the victim's body was found lying facedown on a slight embankment in the yard.
An autopsy performed Wednesday confirmed Howard Harris Smith Jr., 42, of Cape Girardeau died as the result of a gunshot.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad is continuing to investigate, according to a news release from the case squad.
