LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) -- Authorities have charged a 30-year-old woman with domestic assault after her new husband was almost set on fire at their home in suburban Kansas City.
Carolyn Grines would face a 15-year prison sentence if convicted of the felony charge.
Lee's Summit police said Grines told them she never loved her husband and married him for $3,000.
The man told police last week that Grines attacked him in their apartment after he refused to tell her who he named as the beneficiary of his life-insurance policy. The man was not injured.
According to court documents, Grines said that she never loved the man but "had made an arrangement to marry him for $3,000."
Police said immigration officials are reviewing their report.
