A Cape Girardeau man told police officers he fired two warning shots because three women had entered his vehicle, police said.

Cape Girardeau police arrested Alfrae D. Kroninger on Nov. 3. The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Monday charged Kroninger with unlawful use of a weapon.

Officer Aaron Bennett went to the 500 block of Cape Meadows Circle for a trespassing call, but a dispatcher mentioned two shots were fired as he was en route, according to Bennett’s probable-cause statement filed in the case.

When Bennett arrived, fellow officer Jake Scheper had placed Kroninger in handcuffs, Bennett wrote.

Kroninger told Bennett he fired two rounds from his upstairs bedroom window to scare away three unidentified females in his vehicle, according to the statement.

Bennett advised Kroninger of his Miranda rights, and Kroninger decided to stop talking, Bennett wrote.

Kroninger’s breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot, according to the statement.

Bennett asked Kroninger to get up on his feet but instead rolled on the ground until Bennett picked him up, Bennett wrote. Kroninger refused to submit to a chemical breath test.
