KENNETT, Mo. -- Local police said they arrested a 45-year-old Kennett man after he apparently stole a car and crashed it twice during a police pursuit while under the influence of alcohol.
According to official reports, on Monday a Kennett police officer saw William Scott Ferrell driving in a careless matter on College Street and attempted to stop him. Police said Ferrell pulled into a private driveway and struck a tree, then continued to pull back out to College Street. Ferrell drove down College Street with the officer in pursuit until he ran off the roadway at a nearby intersection, driving into the tree line and causing the vehicle to come to a stop.
Ferrell suffered injuries due to the accident and was taken to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center for treatment.
According to law enforcement officials, investigation showed the vehicle Ferrell was driving was recently stolen from an address on Emerson Street in Kennett.
According to Dunklin County assistant prosecuting attorney Jonce Chidister, Ferrell has been charged with felony driving while intoxicated. Ferrell has also been charged with felony tampering.
