CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A man was in custody Wednesday morning after police say he attempted to poison his girlfriend and her two small children. Caruthersville police were called to a residence at 15th and Adams at 9:11 a.m. Tuesday following a report of a disturbance. According to City Marshal Chris Riggs, officers found that a 19-year-old man "had gotten mad at his girlfriend and attempted to get back at the female by putting bleach in the ice trays and the lemonade in the refrigerator." The man was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. His name was being withheld pending the filing of formal charges. Riggs said neither the woman nor her children were injured.
