Three men who allegedly used a broomstick and knife to beat and stab a man during a home invasion and attempted robbery Friday afternoon in Cape Girardeau remained in the Cape Girardeau County jail Monday.
Vincente V. Young, 21, of Memphis, Tenn., and Marcquise Taylor, 18, and William L. Taylor, 19, both listed as homeless, were arrested by officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department on Friday shortly after a man was reported by a witness to be wounded near a residence in the 600 block of North Spanish Street.
Police spokesman Darin Hickey said a passer-by spotted the injured man, who was cut on the leg and abdomen, and alerted police. The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital. His condition was unavailable Monday.
The suspects were located in the 400 block of Bellevue Street and arrested. All three were charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Bond for each was set at $250,000.
Hickey said although the investigation remains open, police believed Monday that the three men forced their way into the victim's home with an intent to take property and ended up assaulting the man. A bloodied broomstick was found at the scene, Hickey said, and use of a knife was evident from the victim's wounds.
Police also were investigating whether the men arrested knew the victim, Hickey said.
Court dates for the three men were not set as of Monday afternoon and no attorneys were listed.
