BENTON, Mo. — The driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a Scott County man is reported in custody.

The Missouri Highway Patrol has identified the victim as Jackie A. Crumley, 49, of Benton.

According to the Patrol’s investigation, at approximately 7:39 p.m. Monday Crumley was walking northbound on County Road 401, one mile south of Benton, when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. The vehicle then fled the scene.

Crumley was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m. His death is the 50th fatality for the Troop E area this year.

On Tuesday evening, Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter reported the driver of the vehicle was in custody. Also authorities stated they had located the truck believed involved in the accident.

Walter, who did not name the suspect, expressed his department’s appreciation for the tips received in the case.

Earlier the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the suspect vehicle was possibly a 2004 to 2011 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, dark gray or black in color. They suspected it had damage to the passenger’s side.
