Police have issued a warrant for a second man alleged to be involved in the theft and torching of a car owned by Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder.
Department spokesman Darin Hickey said Tuesday afternoon that a warrant for the arrest of Jacob Shepard, 19, of Cape Girardeau has been issued. The spokesman said Shepard is not in custody and that the department is looking for him.
Shepard was charged with stealing a motor vehicle, first-degree tampering and second-degree attempted burglary.
On Monday, police arrested Adam D. Cromer, 21, and charged him with the same crimes. Cromer is being held on a $20,000 surety bond.
Hickey said a "combination of several things" led to Shepard's warrant.
The 2009 Ford Flex, officially registered to Friends of Peter Kinder, was stolen and found torched and left on a county road. Police say the car was driven through a wall at Shooters Gun Shop.
Kinder was in Cape Girardeau on Monday to speak at a naturalization ceremony. He said later that he regretted leaving his keys inside the vehicle.
