Cape Girardeau police are investigating an attempted bank robbery.
An attempted robbery took place at US Bank, 3060 William St., at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey said.
Employees said a black man, age 30-35, wearing a blue shirt with white stripes, dark jeans and a white hat came into the business and approached the teller counter.
He handed a note to the to an employee demanding money, according to a police department news release. The man left on foot and was last seen walking behind a shopping center east of the bank.
Witnesses said they saw the suspect getting into a late-model gray or bronze four-door Hyundai Sonata.
No shots were fired, no one was injured and police said initially they didn't think the suspect displayed a weapon.
Hickey said no money was taken during the robbery.
