Cape Girardeau police are investigating the second shooting in three days.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a man being shot at the intersection of Morgan Oak and South Sprigg Street, the Cape Girardeau Police Department reported Saturday afternoon.
The victim was taken in a private vehicle to the hospital, where he was in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the department.
Police are investigating whether the shooting Saturday morning is connected to a Thursday afternoon shooting on Pacific Street.
In that case, officers responding to a call in the 500 block of South Pacific Street found a man on the porch of a residence, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim in the Thursday shooting was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where police hoped to interview him, public information officer Darin Hickey said at the time.
In an email message Saturday, Sgt. Jason Selzer of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said he believed the victim in the shooting Thursday was in stable condition.
Selzer had no new information to release Saturday on the Thursday case.
Police, city officials and community leaders have held several meetings and public events in recent months as they seek ways to curb gun violence in Cape Girardeau.
One development that emerged from the meetings was the creation of an anonymous telephone line for callers to report crime tips. The number for the new line is 339-6313.
Police are asking anyone who has information about either shooting to call either that number or the station's main number -- 335-6621 -- with tips.
