CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- A person was seriously injured in one of two Saturday incidents where individuals were assaulted with a baseball bat.
At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Caruthersville police were called to a residence on Haven Street. The 22-year-old victim and several witnesses reported he was assaulted by several men who struck him with a baseball bat. The victim was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.
Caruthersville City Marshal Chris Riggs said the incident is being investigated and arrests are expected to be made for the assault.
At 12:36 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of an assault in the 900 block of 18th Street. The victim, who was bleeding from a laceration above her eye, identified a 39-year-old woman as her assailant and added the woman had also damaged her vehicle with a baseball bat.
The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree property damage.
The victim was taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. The assailant also sought medical attention, according to the police report.
