Police are looking for a Colorado man accused of using three forged checks to steal about $10,000 at three The Bank of Missouri locations in Cape Girardeau.
Judge Gary Kamp issued an arrest warrant Wednesday for Jimmey Lee Clark, 36, of Milliken, Colorado, on three forgery charges. Clark was still at large as of Thursday.
McDowell South Inc. reported a forged check to its business bank account to Cape Girardeau Police on Aug. 22, according to a probable-cause statement filed by detective Jeff Lucas.
The check had been issued to Ford Groves for $111, but Clark cashed it for $1,911 at 1622 N. Kings-
highway on Aug. 22, Lucas wrote.
The teller wrote down Clark’s Colorado ID number, and Lucas identified Clark by comparing his ID picture to surveillance pictures, according to the statement.
On Aug. 23, The Printing Company reported a forged check cashed by Clark in the amount of $3,911 at 3427 William St., Lucas wrote.
The teller at that location recorded Clark’s Colorado ID number, and Lucas identified Clark on surveillance photographs, according to the statement.
The Printing Company said it had not written that check number to anyone, Lucas wrote.
The same day, Welker Drilling Company said Clark had stolen a check for $135 that was written to a pest-control company and cashed it for $4,135 at 372 S. Kingshighway.
Welker said the check had been placed in the mail but never was received, Lucas wrote.
The teller at this location also recorded Clark’s information on the check, according to the statement.
