ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Police chased a bank-robbery suspect reportedly holding a hostage at gun point for 40 minutes on interstates in Missouri and Illinois before the pursuit ended with a crash on the city's north side, according to broadcast reports.

KMOV-TV in St. Louis said the chase, which ended around 12:45 p.m. Friday, started with a bank robbery in Antonio, Mo., south of St. Louis in Jefferson County.

Calls to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department were not immediately returned. A spokeswoman for the St. Louis Police Department said she had no information, but expected to have a comment soon.
