Police: Charleston man dies of gunshot wound

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A 34-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Charleston on Friday.

At 3:30 p.m. the Charleston Department of Public Safety received a report of gunshots in the area of Vine and Finney streets. Officers arrived at the scene to find George O. Moore Jr. of Charleston on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release from the department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department is being assisted in the investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Charleston police at 573-683-3737.
