Two men were in police custody Friday facing felony assault charges in an early-morning stabbing that left a Cape Girardeau man hospitalized in serious condition.
Prince D. Blair, 19, of New York and Dalton W. Burns, 19, of Cape Girardeau were charged with felony assault and were being held on $75,000 bond at the Cape Girardeau County Jail.
Police went to a Cape Girardeau hospital at 2 a.m. Friday in response to a call that a man was seeking treatment for stab wounds to the stomach and chest, according to Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey.
A witness who had taken the victim to the hospital gave police the following account: The witness had gotten into an altercation with several people at what Hickey would only describe as a local establishment. The witness left and stopped to pick up a friend, and went to the witness' home in the 600 block of Spring Street.
A number of people involved in the earlier altercation were waiting when the two men got out of the car. The two men were assaulted and the victim was stabbed, Hickey said.
The witness drove the victim to the hospital. While police were investigating, several more people showed up at the hospital, including one with a wound to his hand. Three men at the hospital were identified as being involved in the assault, including Burns and Blair. The third has not been taken into custody because he is being treated for injuries, Hickey said.
The victim is a 32-year-old Cape Girardeau resident.
