Cape Girardeau police arrested Shemiah L. Carter, 26, of Cape Girardeau, in connection with a shooting that occurred New Year's Eve at Rhodes 101 on South Sprigg Street.
Carter allegedly shot Ushami Trawick in the chest while in the parking lot of the gas station. He faces charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Bond has been set at $200,000.
Carter has a criminal record dating back to a 1998 conviction for distributing or delivering not more than five grams marijuana, and including convictions for escaping from custody and resisting arrest. He has also pleaded guilty to domestic assault and possession with intent to distribute.
