In the foothills of the Ozarks, with their hollows rough and deep --
Where trees are tall and sturdy and valley walls are steep --
Where creeks are clear and flowing, and winds sing thru the pine --
Our troubles seem to vanish, we have a life sublime.
In these hollows in the hill lands,w e have peace that soothes the soul --
Our view is one of beauty, as we climb the highest knoll --
The birds are always happy as they sing their songs of live --
From the lively little bluebirds, to the lonesome mourning doves.
In our hills here in the Ozarks, we have air that's clean and pure --
We have foxes for the hounds to chase, and fish that strike the lure --
We have hawks that soar the cloudless sky, and whipperwill at night --
We have ponies for the kids to ride, and winds to sail their kites.
We have animals all around us, they live without a fear --
We hear the turkey gobble, we see the wary deer --
We see trees of every
color, during Autumn's curing test --
They nearly take our breath away, with scenes so picturesque --
Our nights are filled with brightness, a billion, billion stars --
We trace the path of Venus, search for planet Mars --
We try to catch the moonbeams, as they dance from place to place --
We mock the wise ole hoot owl, give lightning bugs a chance --
We hear people talk of Paradise, somewhere beyond the sky --
Just how we'll ever get there, most don't see eye to eye --
We think we may have found it, of this we're most sincere --
It fit's all right with the powers that be, we'd love to stay right here.
It's the closest thing to paradise, of this we have no doubt --
We surely know a little bit, of what we speak about --
We've seen beauty and despair, in lands beyond the sun --
Which makes us positively sure, our hills are number one.
